Surrey & the Surrey Hills

Wedding photography and film in Surrey.

We are one in-house team: Aaron photographs, Hayden films, and we travel into Surrey from just over the West Sussex border, closest to Haslemere and Farnham.

We should be straight with you before anything else, because it is the first thing we would want to know ourselves. Robinson Martin Green is not a Surrey studio. We are a two-person wedding studio based at Mudberry Lane on the western edge of Chichester, just over the West Sussex border, and we travel into Surrey rather than being from it. Aaron shoots the photographs, Hayden shoots the film, and the two of us cover the county together as one team.

Because we are honest about where we start from, we are honest about the distances too. The western side of Surrey is closest to us. Haslemere is about eighteen miles up through the South Downs, Farnham around thirty, and the eastern towns like Dorking and Reigate are a longer run at roughly thirty-five to forty miles. None of that changes the day you get, it just means we build the travel into the plan and arrive early rather than cutting it fine. You will always know the distances and any cost that comes with them before you book.

The other thing to be straight about is that none of the weddings we have covered so far has been in Surrey yet. We would rather tell you that plainly than pad this page with a Surrey couple who does not exist. What we can show you is real work a short drive from the county line, the same two of us on the day from the morning through to the evening, around twelve hours on a full booking, and it’s the same two people who will turn up for you.

The county we would be shooting

    Two kinds of Surrey countryside.

Surrey is really two kinds of country. On the Haslemere and Hindhead side you have the wooded Devil’s Punch Bowl and the greensand hills, where the light is softer under the trees. Further east the land opens onto the chalk of the North Downs, with Box Hill above Dorking and the long views the Surrey Hills is known for. We plan your portraits around which of the two your venue sits in, because the light works differently in each.

That is why we keep a separate page for each of the Surrey towns we work toward, rather than one paragraph with the place name swapped. The western towns are the closest to us and the ones we reach most easily, the eastern towns are the longer run under the North Downs, and each page is honest about what that means for your day. Start with your town, and we’ll talk you through the venue and the timings from there.

We have not shot in Surrey yet, so rather than borrow anyone else’s photographs, here are the actual weddings we have covered nearby. Same two people, same one-team plan, honest about where each of them actually was.

    FAQs

    Common questions from Surrey couples.

You are based in West Sussex, not Surrey. How far will you actually travel?

We travel across the whole county, we are just honest about the distances. Our base is Mudberry Lane near Chichester, so the western side of Surrey is closest to us. Haslemere is about eighteen miles up the road, Farnham around thirty, and the eastern towns like Dorking and Reigate are a longer run at roughly thirty-five to forty miles. None of that is a problem, it just means we plan the timings around it and set off early rather than cutting it fine.

Does the extra distance to the eastern side of Surrey add a travel charge?

For most of Surrey there is no separate travel charge, and where a longer eastern run does mean an early start or an overnight before a very early ceremony, we tell you the figure upfront rather than adding it quietly later. You will always know the full cost before you book, not after.

Our Surrey venue is one you have not shot at before. How do you handle that?

The same way we handle every venue we haven’t worked at, which around Surrey is most of them, because our three documented weddings so far have been closer to home. We visit ahead of the day so we already know the ceremony space, where the light falls at your time of year and the two or three spots for portraits before we arrive with you. Two of us means one can scout the next spot while the other stays with you, so an unfamiliar venue is planned rather than guessed.

How far ahead do Surrey wedding dates get booked?

Popular Saturdays from late spring to early autumn tend to go twelve to eighteen months out, and the best known Surrey Hills and country-house venues fill first. Dates outside that window move more slowly and shorter notice gaps do come up, so it is worth asking even if your wedding is only a few months away.
