Godalming & the Wey valley

Wedding photography and film in Godalming.

One team covers both the photographs and the film. We cover Godalming and the lakes, woodland and country venues around it, never two strangers competing for the same shot.

Godalming is the softer, greener country south of Guildford, where the Surrey greensand and the Wey valley give you lakes, water gardens and deep woodland around an intimate old market town. For a photographer it is a gift of reflections and dappled light, quieter than the grand towns and made for a calmer, more natural set of pictures. We are Robinson Martin Green, a two-person studio based at Mudberry Lane near Chichester, and we cover Godalming weddings across the Wey valley as one team that shoots both the photographs and the film.

The team is Aaron Robinson on stills and Hayden Martin-Green on film. We work as one unit on the day rather than two suppliers who met for the first time that morning. By a lake or in a marquee, a photographer and a filmmaker who have not worked together end up in each other’s frames and fighting for the same angle during the vows. We have already agreed who stands where, so neither of us blocks the other and you are not the one trying to keep two strangers apart.

We should be straight about this. Godalming is about thirty-two miles from our base and well inside the area we cover, but we have not yet documented a wedding in the town itself. We would rather tell you that plainly than dress up a page with a Godalming couple who does not exist. What we can show you is real work an easy drive from home, and the same two people will be the ones who turn up for you.

How we would cover a Godalming day

One team for photo and film.

Most couples start out planning to hire a photographer and a separate videographer. The hidden cost of that is coordination, and it lands on you. Two suppliers means two timelines to chase, two sets of questions about when the speeches start, and two people who each want the couple to themselves for portraits. Booking the photographs and the film as one studio removes all of that. There is one timeline, one shot list, one point of contact, and one shared plan for how Aaron and Hayden move through your day.

For a Godalming day that usually means a run up from Chichester in the morning, a lakeside or woodland venue handled by a proper walk-round beforehand, and two of us reading the same light so nothing important rests on one person. Water and canopy give beautiful but changeable light, so we plan where the good light sits at your ceremony hour and hold a little back for portraits by the lake when the sun drops. We run stills and film side by side without staging anything twice, agree the moments that matter to you specifically, and stay with you from the getting-ready through to the evening so the whole day comes back as one set.

    Godalming and the Wey valley

    • Busbridge Lakes, a family-run venue hidden in a private valley with three lakes and heritage gardens. The still water gives you reflections and a calm nothing else can, and a marquee wedding here sits among the lakes and the woods for portraits and confetti.
    • Charterhouse, set in around 250 acres with grand 19th-century architecture and three spaces licensed for civil ceremonies, giving a photograph real scale in the buildings and the grounds.
    • Clock Barn Hall, a rustic barn and farm wedding venue near the town, where big timber and open countryside give a photograph warmth and texture for an indoor ceremony and outdoor portraits.
    • The wider Wey valley and the woodland of Winkworth Arboretum, famous for its autumn colour, for couples who want reflections, trees and the turn of the season in the frame.
    The ground around Godalming

A few of the Godalming settings we are set up for.

Real venues in and around the town, each with something specific to plan around. We visit any of them ahead of your day so the first time we shoot there is not on the day itself.

Real work, not a stock gallery

The nearest day we can actually show you.

We would rather point you at a real wedding than pad this page with a testimonial from a Godalming couple we have never met. The closest documented day is Becky and Lucas, which ran from Horsham through to The Highdown, the same two people you would be booking. It is not Godalming, and we are not going to dress it up as if it were, but it is an honest look at how we work across a full day rather than a set of staged sample shots.

    FAQs

    Common questions from Godalming couples.

Have you photographed at Busbridge Lakes or Charterhouse before?

Not yet, and we will not pretend otherwise. Our documented weddings are a short drive from home rather than in Godalming itself. For any venue we have not worked at, we go and visit ahead of the day so we already know the ceremony space, where the light falls on the water and the best spots for portraits before we turn up with you. A lakeside, a marquee or a woodland clearing is a known quantity to plan around even on a first booking.

How do you handle light on the water and under the trees?

Water and woodland are a gift for a photographer if you read them right. Still water gives you reflections and a second sky, so we use it, placing portraits where the lake mirrors the light. Under a canopy the light comes in dappled pools, so we move you into the good ones rather than fighting the shade. And we hold a little time back for the last hour, when the light lies flat and gold across the valley. Two of us means one can be reading the light while the other stays on you.

You are based near Chichester. Does travel to Godalming cost extra?

Godalming is about thirty-two miles from Mudberry Lane and well inside the area we cover, so there is no separate travel charge for a Godalming wedding. We would tell you upfront if a venue ever fell outside that, rather than adding it quietly later.
