East Sussex weddings

Wedding photography and film in East Sussex.

We are one in-house team: Aaron photographs, Hayden films, and we travel east from Chichester into East Sussex for couples who want the whole day covered by two people, not four.

We should start with the honest bit, because it is the first thing we would want to know ourselves. We are Robinson Martin Green, a two-person wedding studio based at Mudberry Lane on the western edge of Chichester, so East Sussex is not our home county. We travel east into it for couples who want our one-team approach, and we would rather say that straight than dress a page up as your local photographer. Brighton and Hove are about thirty-five miles from us, Lewes and Uckfield around forty through the Weald, and Eastbourne close to fifty, and every one of those is a drive we are glad to make for the right day.

What makes the trip worth it is the way we work. Most couples set out to book a photographer and then a separate videographer, and the hidden cost of that lands on you as coordination. Two suppliers means two timelines to chase, two sets of questions about when the speeches start, and two people who each want you to themselves for portraits. Aaron shoots the photographs and Hayden shoots the film, and booking both as one studio removes all of that. There is one timeline, one shot list, one point of contact, and one shared plan for how the two of us move through your day without ending up in each other’s frames.

We will also be straight about our record. Robinson Martin Green is a new studio with a small number of real weddings behind it, and none of them, yet, has been in East Sussex. We are not going to invent an East Sussex couple to fill this page. What we can show you is real work from days a short drive over the West Sussex and Berkshire border, shot by the same two people who would come and cover yours, and we would rather show you one wedding we are proud of than pad the page with claims we cannot stand behind.

Becky & Lucas, a day across two venues.

A full-day Bronze wedding with the ceremony in Horsham and the reception at The Highdown near Worthing. That is West Sussex, not East Sussex, and we would not pretend otherwise. It is here because it shows how the two of us handle a day that travels, which is exactly what an East Sussex day tends to do.

Ceremony in Horsham · reception at The Highdown, near Worthing

Their day is a fair picture of how a wedding that splits across two places actually runs. The ceremony was in Horsham, then everyone travelled to The Highdown for the reception, a proper drive in the middle of the day. In the weeks before, we sent them a written list of the photographs and film moments we planned to cover, so nothing important rested on memory. The same two of us stayed with them from the morning preparations through to the evening, around twelve hours in all, and the whole day came back as one set rather than two halves stitched together. Their film runs to about four minutes and their gallery holds the full day. Line that up against a Brighton register office and a reception out toward the Downs and it is the same job, a short drive further east.

    FAQs

Common questions from East Sussex couples.

You are based in Chichester, over in West Sussex. Do you really cover East Sussex?

Yes, we travel east into East Sussex for couples who want our one-team approach, and we are open that it is a drive rather than a walk down the road. From Mudberry Lane we reach Brighton and Hove in about thirty-five miles, Lewes in around forty, Uckfield a similar distance through the Weald, and Eastbourne at roughly fifty. For a venue we have not worked at before we build that travel into the plan and arrive early rather than cutting it fine, so the day starts calm.

Our ceremony and reception are in two different East Sussex places. Can you cover the day end to end?

That is normal for an East Sussex day and we plan for it. A register office ceremony in Brighton or Lewes and a reception out toward the Downs or the coast means a drive in the middle of the day, and that drive is part of the day rather than a gap to fill. Becky and Lucas married in Horsham and celebrated at The Highdown, a proper cross-county move in one day, and their set reads as one day rather than two events. The same principle carries straight over the border into East Sussex.

How does shooting on the East Sussex coast differ from the Weald or the Downs?

It comes down to the light and the timing more than the approach. The open coast at Brighton, Hove and Eastbourne gives you bright, hard light through the early afternoon, while a venue tucked into the Weald or under the South Downs holds softer light later into the day. We plan the portrait timings around which of the two you have, and we visit an unfamiliar East Sussex venue ahead of the day so those calls are made before anyone is standing around waiting.

How far ahead do East Sussex wedding dates get booked?

Popular Saturdays from late spring to early autumn tend to go twelve to eighteen months out, and the best known East Sussex venues fill first. Because we travel from West Sussex we take a limited number of dates each year, so it is worth asking early. Dates outside that summer window move more slowly, and shorter notice gaps do come up, so it is still worth a message even if your wedding is only a few months away.
