Haslemere & the South Downs border

    Wedding films in Haslemere.

Photography and film come from one in-house team. Hayden films your Haslemere day while Aaron shoots stills beside him, so the sound, the vows and the speeches come home with you, not just the photographs.

Why a film, not only photographs

What you get from a film.

A photograph of the gardens at Ramster or the view from Blackdown is a lovely thing to keep. It cannot give you back the sound. It will not have the sound of the vows, the laughter in the Long Hall during the best man’s speech, or the music as you walked back down the aisle. A film records all of that, and the sound is the main reason to book one.

We are Robinson Martin Green. Our base is Mudberry Lane in Chichester, and of the towns we cover Haslemere is among the nearest, a straight run of roughly eighteen miles up through the South Downs. The films are led by Hayden Martin-Green, who shoots and cuts them, with Aaron Robinson on stills working the same day beside him. We should be straight with you though. Near as it is, no Haslemere wedding has come through us on film yet, and we would not put a made-up Haslemere couple on this page to paper over that. What sits here instead are complete wedding films from days a short drive off, both shot by the pair who would turn up to film yours.

Haslemere films well, and it gives a filmmaker two things in particular. Movement is the first. The woodland gardens at Ramster and the high open ground on Blackdown, the highest point in Sussex, are made for a slow aerial pass or a long tracking shot that a flat venue simply cannot offer, and in the last of the light the heath and the tree line turn for the camera. Sound is the second. A ceremony held inside the beams and brick of a hall like Ramster or the panelled rooms of Lythe Hill’s old Tudor house holds a voice close, with none of the wind you fight in an open field, so the vows and the readings land clean on the recording. We plan the day around both, the picture and the sound, because a wedding film that looks lovely and loses the words through the vows has missed the point.

    The vows, with real sound
    How we would plan it

How we would film a Haslemere day.

We have not filmed a Haslemere wedding yet, so rather than borrow anyone else’s footage, here is how we would plan one. It is our plan for the day, not a record of one we have filmed.

Picture the wedding at Ramster. Having scouted those twenty acres beforehand, we turn up already aware which pockets of the gardens hold the kindest light and the least noise on your date. Hayden opens on the morning, the moving detail a stills camera misses, a door swinging, ribbon lifting, a first look, as the guests settle and the microphones clip on. For the vows in the Long Hall we sit in the two spots fixed in advance, one lens tight on your faces and one drawn back across the room, with the recorders holding every word of the readings, so nothing slips past and neither craft strays into the other’s frame.

Once you are married we walk you out among the trees for a brief, easy piece to camera, a slow stroll or a held pause, set for whichever stretch of the afternoon the light turns softest, and if the venue signs it off a drone climbs for a run along the canopy. From there we pull back and leave the recorders rolling on the toasts and the first dance, since the din of a packed room is half of what makes the film. Move the wedding to Lythe Hill and the rhythm carries over: the timber-lined Tudor rooms for the quiet, close sound, the gazebo by the water for the ceremony, the two of us working it as a single plan. You finish with one running order, one person to ring, and a film and a gallery drawn from one day witnessed from two angles.

Adam & Panha at Fitzleroi Barn.

We would rather show you than talk at you, so before the plan turns into anything else, here is a real one. Adam and Panha’s film runs to just under six minutes at Fitzleroi Barn near Pulborough, cut from a full day with the recorded sound left in, the vows, the speeches and the room. It is a fair guide to how a Haslemere film from us would look, with the two of us working quietly in the room rather than staging anything.

Becky and Lucas is the other, an intimate film of around four minutes that follows the day from Horsham through to The Highdown. Both are a short drive from Haslemere, and you can watch them in full, with the sound on, over on our films page.

    On the day

How your Haslemere day gets filmed.

Because Hayden films while Aaron photographs, you get one team, one plan and one point of contact instead of two suppliers meeting for the first time at your ceremony. That matters more on film than it does on stills, and it matters most where the sound is close. In a panelled room at Lythe Hill or under the beams at Ramster, a videographer who has never worked with your photographer ends up in half their shots and reaching across them for the vows, and you are the one caught in the middle keeping two strangers apart. We have already settled who stands where before you walk in, so the camera holds on you and the recorders stay on the words.

Hayden films the ceremony on two cameras, one close on the couple and one wider on the room, so a reaction missed on one is caught on the other and the vows are never lost to a blocked view. For a venue we have not filmed before we walk it first, so the first time we film there is not on your actual day. We work out where the sound stays clean, where the light lands at your ceremony hour, and where the drone can fly over the gardens if the venue clears it. Nothing gets staged twice for the cameras. You are filmed and photographed at once, then handed back to your guests.

    Before you ask

Questions from couples booking a film.

Do you actually record the vows and the speeches, or set it to music?

We record the real sound. A discreet microphone on the groom and another on the registrar hold the vows and the readings, and a separate recorder by the top table catches the speeches, so the voices in the finished film are the ones from the day. The music we add sits underneath that recorded audio rather than in place of it. In a room like Ramster’s beamed Long Hall, where the sound carries, that recorded audio is a large part of what makes the film feel like the day.

Ramster is known for its gardens. Can you fly a drone over them?

Where the site and the conditions allow it, yes, and those twenty acres of woodland reward it. A slow aerial pass over the gardens and the tree line gives the film an opening or a closing shot you cannot take from the ground, and in late spring, with the rhododendrons out, it is worth the effort. We clear the permissions ahead of the day, and if a restriction or the weather rules flying out we tell you beforehand and cover the same movement from within the garden instead.

How long is the wedding film, and is a teaser included?

Every collection includes one edited wedding film, and there is no separate full-length edit. Its length follows the day, and Adam and Panha above runs just under six minutes. A short teaser to share early is included with Silver and Gold, along with the speeches recorded in full in the film. The teaser comes first, and the film lands in your private Wedding Hub, normally within eight to ten weeks of the day.

Can we book the film on its own without the photography?

You can. The film works as a standalone booking, and we plan the day around whoever is covering your stills so we keep out of each other’s frames. Most couples book both crafts with us so one in-house team runs the whole day on a single plan, which is the setup we would recommend, but for a town this close to us the film on its own is a straightforward booking to make.
