Brighton & the Sussex coast

    Wedding films in Brighton.

We are one in-house team for photos and film. Hayden films your Brighton day while Aaron shoots stills alongside, so the sound of the city, the vows and the speeches come home with you, not just the pictures.

Why a film, not just photographs

What a film records at a city wedding.

Brighton is a wedding you hear as much as see. Photographs of the seafront or a room in the Pavilion will hang beautifully on a wall, but they can’t give you back the noise of the day, the gulls over the promenade, the cheer as you step out onto the front, the wobble in a voice at the top of the vows, the laughter in the room during the best man’s speech. A film records all of that. That’s the whole reason to book one, because the sound of the day comes home with you as well as the pictures.

We are Robinson Martin Green, based at Mudberry Lane in Chichester, and we will be straight with you before you read another line. Brighton is roughly 35 miles from us, close to an hour along the A27, which is a real drive rather than a hop up the road, and we haven’t filmed a wedding in the city itself yet. It’s a big, competitive place for wedding film, and we’re not going to dress up this page as the local Brighton crew, because we’re not. We travel across for couples who want one in-house team on both the film and the photographs. The films are led by Hayden Martin-Green, who shoots and cuts them, with Aaron Robinson on stills working the same day beside him.

What we can show you is real. Full wedding films from days a straight drive along this same coast and countryside, filmed by the exact two people who would turn up for you. On a city day that moves about, having one team makes a real difference on film. Brighton rarely sits still in one building, so a film here is really about catching a day on the move and keeping the sound clean while it runs, and that is a plan you make in advance rather than a thing you wing at the ceremony.

The speeches and vows only happen once.

Most couples plan the photographs first and leave the film as something they might add later. Then the day arrives in a rush, the speeches happen once, the first dance happens once, and there’s no way to go back and record any of it again. Stills freeze how the day looked. Only a film carries the movement and the sound, your dad’s voice going as he stands up, the room falling quiet before the rings, the whole racket of a city party in full swing. It’s the one part of the day you can’t make again afterwards, so it is worth deciding on early.

    Filming the city

    Filming a wedding around Brighton.

A Brighton wedding film is really a film about movement. In the morning we film the getting ready shots and the details in a Kemptown townhouse or a seafront hotel room. The ceremony is the still centre of it, a room in the Royal Pavilion or a sea-view room at The Grand, where the job is to hold on you and let the vows land clean on the recording. Then the day gets up and walks, portraits through the Lanes, a stretch of the promenade, the party moving on again, and a city gives a film a rhythm a country estate down one long drive simply can’t.

The reception films differently again. First dances, speeches and the noise of a full room need the sound as much as the picture, so we keep recording the room while we film it, and the finished piece carries the laugh that ran through the speeches and the first bars of your first dance as they actually sounded, not a track dropped over the top.

    On the day

How your Brighton day gets filmed.

Because Hayden films while Aaron photographs, there is one team, one plan and one point of contact rather than two suppliers meeting for the first time at your ceremony. That matters more on film than on stills, and it matters more again in a city. A videographer who has never met your photographer ends up in half their shots and competing for the aisle during the vows, and in the tight rooms and packed staircases a Brighton day moves through, you are the one caught in the middle asking two strangers to sort it out. We have already agreed who stands where before you walk in, so the camera can hold on you without a second shooter drifting into frame.

Hayden films the ceremony on two cameras, one held on the couple and one wider on the room, so a missed reaction on one angle is caught on the other and the vows are never lost to a blocked shot. For a venue we have not filmed before, a room at The Grand or a licensed space in the Royal Pavilion, we walk it first, so the first time we film there is not on your actual day. We work out where the sound is cleanest against the noise of the front, where the light will fall at your ceremony hour, and where an aerial can fly if the location and the rules allow it. Nothing gets staged twice for the two cameras. You are filmed and photographed at the same time, then handed back to your guests.

    How the film is delivered.

The edit is where a wedding film is actually made, and it is worth knowing what happens once the day is done. We work through the footage and the recorded sound, choose the moments, and build your film from them, usually within eight to ten weeks. It lands in your private Wedding Hub, the same place your photographs are delivered, so the film and the gallery sit together in one spot. If you are on Silver or Gold, a short teaser comes through first so you have a slice of the day to share while the film is still being finished. Because both your film and your photographs come from us, there is one delivery, one login, and one team to talk to if you want a change.

    Common questions

Questions from couples booking a film.

A Brighton day gets loud. Will the vows and speeches actually be audible in the film?

Yes, because we record the sound properly rather than laying a song over silent footage. Two small microphones go on the groom and the officiant for the ceremony, and a separate recorder sits near the top table for the speeches, so the words survive even when the room, the pier or the seafront behind you is noisy. A city wedding is one of the harder places to keep audio clean, which is exactly why we record it on the day instead of hoping we can rescue it in the edit.

How long will our wedding film be, and do we get a teaser first?

You get one wedding film, included in every collection, rather than a choice of short and long cuts. How long it runs depends on how much the day holds, and Adam and Panha above comes in just under six minutes. On Silver and Gold the speeches stay in the film in full, and a short teaser reaches you first so you can share something early. The film itself lands in your private Wedding Hub, usually inside eight to ten weeks of the day.

Can we get an aerial shot over the seafront, or a short reel for social straight after?

Where the location and the rules allow it, yes. The open coast and the piers make for a strong aerial, and we clear the airspace and permissions in advance rather than on the day, though central Brighton has restrictions we would check against your venue first and tell you honestly if it is a no. We can also cut a short vertical teaser, around sixty seconds, sized for Instagram and TikTok, so you have something to share in the days after the wedding while the full film is still being edited.

Can we book the film on its own, or does it only come with the photography?

The film can be booked on its own if you already have a photographer, and it works because we plan around whoever else is covering your day. Most couples book both with us so one in-house team runs the whole thing on a single plan, which is what we would suggest for a moving city day, but the film does not depend on it.
