Wedding photography and film in Southampton.
Aaron takes the photographs and Hayden shoots the film, as one team. We cover Southampton and the Old Town and waterfront venues around it, never two strangers competing for the same shot.
Southampton is two cities in one for a photographer. There is the old Southampton of the Bargate, the medieval walls and the stone of the Old Town, where the light comes low and shaped through ancient windows. And there is the water, the docks, Town Quay and Ocean Village, where the sky opens out and the light bounces bright off the Solent. Handled well, a wedding here can carry both in one set of photographs. We are Robinson Martin Green, a two-person studio based at Mudberry Lane near Chichester, and we cover Southampton weddings as one team that shoots both the photographs and the film.
The team is Aaron Robinson on stills and Hayden Martin-Green on film. We work as one unit on the day rather than two suppliers who met for the first time that morning, and in a tight Old Town venue that matters more than it sounds. Somewhere like God’s House Tower, with historic access and one narrow stair, a photographer and a filmmaker who have not worked together end up in each other’s frames and fighting for the same angle during the vows. We have already agreed who stands where, so neither of us blocks the other and you are not the one trying to keep two strangers apart.
We should be straight about this. Southampton is about thirty miles from our base, under the hour along the coast and well inside the area we cover, but we have not yet documented a wedding in the city itself. We would rather tell you that plainly than dress up a page with a Southampton couple who does not exist. What we can show you is real work an easy drive away, and the same two people will be the ones who turn up for you.

One team for photo and film.
Most couples start out planning to hire a photographer and a separate videographer. The hidden cost of that is coordination, and it lands on you. Two suppliers means two timelines to chase, two sets of questions about when the speeches start, and two people who each want the couple to themselves for portraits. Booking the photographs and the film as one studio removes all of that. There is one timeline, one shot list, one point of contact, and one shared plan for how Aaron and Hayden move through your day.
For a Southampton day that usually means a run over from Chichester in the morning, the nerves of an unfamiliar city venue handled by a proper walk-round beforehand, and two of us reading the same light so nothing important rests on one person. The light indoors and on the waterfront are two different problems, so we plan where the good light will sit at your ceremony hour and hold a little back for portraits when the sun drops over the water. We run stills and film side by side without staging anything twice, agree the moments that matter to you specifically, and stay with you from the getting-ready through to the evening so the whole day comes back as one set.
Southampton, the Old Town and the water
- God’s House Tower, the medieval tower and gatehouse in the heart of the Old Town, now an arts and heritage venue licensed for ceremonies, with old stone walls and low light to plan portraits around.
- The Grand, a city wedding venue licensed for civil ceremonies with high ceilings and glittering interiors, the grand rooms and their light making a striking backdrop for the ceremony and the group photographs.
- Chilworth Manor Hotel, a short drive north of the city on the edge of the countryside, licensed for civil ceremonies in wooded grounds, a green, quiet counterpoint to the city for couples who want lawns and trees in the frame.
- Southampton’s medieval Old Town, the Bargate, the town walls and the waterfront by Town Quay and Ocean Village, old stone one way and open water the other, both good for portraits.
A few of the Southampton settings we are set up for.
Real venues in and around the city, each with something specific to plan around. We visit any of them ahead of your day so the first time we shoot there is not on the day itself.
The nearest day we can actually show you.
We would rather point you at a real wedding than pad this page with a testimonial from a Southampton couple we have never met. The closest documented day is Becky and Lucas, which ran from Horsham through to The Highdown, the same county and the same two people you would be booking. It is not Southampton, and we are not going to dress it up as if it were, but it is an honest look at how we work across a full day rather than a set of staged sample shots.

Common questions from Southampton couples.
Have you photographed at God’s House Tower or The Grand before?
Not yet, and we will not pretend otherwise. Our documented weddings are a short drive away rather than in Southampton itself. For any venue we have not worked at, we go and visit ahead of the day so we already know the ceremony room, where the light falls and the best spots for portraits before we turn up with you. Medieval stone or a grand city room is a known quantity to plan around even on a first booking.
The Old Town is stone and the waterfront is bright. How do you handle such different light?
That contrast is the part we plan for. Inside ancient stone the light is low and directional, so we work with the window light and the shape it gives a face rather than flattening it with flash. Out on the waterfront the problem flips to bright, open sky off the water, so we place portraits with the light rather than into it and hold a little time back for the last hour when the sun drops over the Solent. Two of us means one can be reading the light while the other stays on you.
You are based near Chichester. Does travel to Southampton cost extra?
Southampton is about thirty miles from Mudberry Lane, under the hour along the coast and well inside the area we cover, so there is no separate travel charge for it. We would tell you upfront if a venue ever fell outside that, rather than adding it quietly later.
