Petersfield & the South Downs

Wedding photography and film in Petersfield.

One team covers both the photographs and the film. We cover Petersfield and the country venues around it, never two strangers competing for the same shot.

Petersfield sits in a bowl of the South Downs with Butser Hill rising to the west at 270 metres, 886 feet and the highest point of the Downs proper, and the Heath and its pond on the edge of town. It is the kind of setting where the light does the work for you if someone is watching for it, low gold across the downland late in the day rather than flat sun at noon. We are Robinson Martin Green, a two-person studio based at Mudberry Lane near Chichester, and we cover Petersfield weddings across the South Downs as one team that shoots both the photographs and the film.

The team is Aaron Robinson on stills and Hayden Martin-Green on film. We work as one unit on the day rather than two suppliers who met for the first time that morning, and that matters more than it sounds. In a walled garden or a country house with one way in and out, a photographer and a filmmaker who haven’t worked together end up in each other’s frames and fighting for the same angle during the vows. We’ve already agreed who stands where, so neither of us blocks the other and you’re not the one trying to keep two strangers apart.

We should be straight about this. Petersfield is about twenty miles from our base, over the county line into Hampshire and well inside the area we cover, but we haven’t yet documented a wedding in the town itself. We’d rather tell you that plainly than dress up a page with a Petersfield couple who doesn’t exist. What we can show you is real work an easy drive away, and the same two people will be the ones who turn up for you.

How we would cover a Petersfield day

One team for photo and film.

Most couples start out planning to hire a photographer and a separate videographer. The hidden cost of that is coordination, and it lands on you. Two suppliers means two timelines to chase, two sets of questions about when the speeches start, and two people who each want the couple to themselves for portraits. Booking the photographs and the film as one studio removes all of that. There’s one timeline, one shot list, one point of contact, and one shared plan for how Aaron and Hayden move through your day.

For a Petersfield day that usually means a drive up from Chichester in the morning, unfamiliar-venue nerves handled by a proper walk-round beforehand, and two of us reading the same room so nothing important rests on one person. We run stills and film side by side without staging anything twice. We talk through the order of the day with you in advance and agree the moments that matter to you specifically rather than working off a template. If your ceremony’s at a licensed venue like Old Thorns and the rest of the day moves elsewhere on the grounds, we stay with you across both so the morning and the evening come back as one set.

    Petersfield and the South Downs

    • Langrish House, a country house dating to 1643 that has been in the same family for eight generations, set in its own grounds in the South Downs National Park a couple of miles from the town.
    • Old Thorns Hotel and Resort at Liphook, a short drive north, with an onsite chapel and a walled garden licensed for outdoor ceremonies alongside its golf course and grounds.
    • Uppark House, the National Trust’s seventeenth-century Grade I house at South Harting, five miles south-east of Petersfield on the B2146, with lawns and downland views for portraits.
    • The wider South Downs around the town, from Petersfield Heath and its pond to the open ground below Butser Hill, the highest point of the Downs proper, for couples who want the countryside in the frame.
    The ground around Petersfield

A few of the Petersfield settings we are set up for.

Real venues in and around the town, each with something specific to plan around. We visit any of them ahead of your day so the first time we shoot there is not on the day itself.

Real work, not a stock gallery

The nearest day we can actually show you.

We’d rather point you at a real wedding than pad this page with a testimonial from a Petersfield couple we’ve never met. The closest documented day to here is Becky and Lucas, which ran from Horsham through to The Highdown, the same county and the same two people you’d be booking. It isn’t Petersfield, and we’re not going to dress it up as if it were, but it’s an honest look at how we work across a full day rather than a set of staged sample shots.

    FAQs

    Common questions from Petersfield couples.

Have you shot at Langrish House or Old Thorns before?

Not yet, and we will not pretend otherwise. Our documented weddings are a short drive away rather than in Petersfield itself. For any venue we haven't worked at, we go and visit ahead of the day so we already know the ceremony room, where the light falls and the best spots for portraits before we turn up with you. A walled garden or a country house is a known quantity to plan around even on a first booking.

The light across the South Downs moves fast. How do you handle it?

That is the part we plan for. Estate grounds below Butser Hill go from open sun to deep shade within a few steps, so we scout where the good light will sit at your ceremony time and hold a little back for portraits when the sun drops behind the Downs. Two of us means one can be reading the light while the other stays on you.

You are based near Chichester. Does travel to Petersfield cost extra?

Petersfield is roughly twenty miles from Mudberry Lane, over the county line into Hampshire but well inside the area we cover, so there's no separate travel charge for it. We'd tell you upfront if a venue ever fell outside that, rather than adding it quietly later.
