Havant & the coast around Langstone Harbour

Wedding photography and film in Havant.

Aaron takes the photographs and Hayden shoots the film, as one team. We cover Havant and the harbour villages around it, never two strangers competing for the same shot.

Havant sits about eight miles from our front door. Follow the coast road out past Langstone Harbour and you are on the causeway to Hayling Island before you know it, with the Solent opening up on one side and the South Downs rising behind the town on the other. Of all the places we cover, Havant is one of the closest, near enough that it feels less like travelling to a wedding and more like turning up in the next town along. We are Robinson Martin Green, a two-person studio based at Mudberry Lane in Chichester, and we shoot both the photographs and the film as one team.

The team is Aaron Robinson on stills and Hayden Martin-Green on film. We work as one unit on the day rather than two suppliers who met for the first time that morning. That matters more than it sounds. In a harbourside room with big windows on one wall and the light changing every few minutes, a photographer and a filmmaker who have not worked together end up in each other’s frames and fighting for the same angle during the vows. We have already agreed who stands where, so neither of us blocks the other and you are not the one trying to keep two strangers apart.

We should be straight about this. Havant is a short hop for us, well inside the area we cover, but we have not yet documented a wedding in the town itself. We would rather tell you that plainly than dress up a page with a Havant couple who does not exist. What we can show you is honest work a short drive away, full weddings you can look through, and the same two people will be the ones who turn up for you.

How we would cover a Havant day

One team for photo and film.

For a Havant day the short distance actually changes how we work. Eight miles is fifteen or twenty minutes, so we are not racing across two counties at dawn. We can get to your venue early, walk the ground properly, and still be relaxed before the first guest arrives. If your ceremony is on the water at Langstone and the reception moves elsewhere, that is a ten-minute problem for us, not an hour of motorway. We would rather spend that time at your venue than sitting in traffic.

The harbour and the open coast give you weather that moves fast. Bright flat glare at midday can turn to a low gold light over the water by early evening, and the two do not photograph the same way. Two of us means one can be reading the sky while the other stays on you, so when the good light arrives near the end of the day we are ready for it rather than caught out. We talk the order of the day through with you in advance and agree the two or three moments that matter to you specifically, rather than working off a template.

    Havant and the harbour villages

    • Stansted Park at Rowlands Castle, PO9 6DX, an Edwardian country house on a private estate just north of Havant, with its own St Paul’s Chapel and sweeping parkland for exclusive-use days. The walk from the house down through the grounds gives you portraits with real scale.
    • Langstone Quays Resort on Northney Road, PO11 0NQ, right on the water overlooking Langstone Harbour with the Hayling Island causeway alongside it. The harbourside terrace and the big windows over the water are the reason couples pick it, and the changing light off the harbour is the thing to plan the timeline around.
    • St Thomas a Becket Church at Warblington, a parish church with Saxon origins that sits close to the sea between Warblington and Emsworth, with a ruined castle wall and open churchyard nearby for a service with real age to it.
    • Emsworth on the harbour’s edge, a working quay town about two miles from Havant, where the tide, the moored boats and the mill pond give you a backdrop you will not get inland.

Real venues in and around the town, each with something specific to plan around. We visit any of them ahead of your day so the first time we shoot there is not on the day itself.

    Good to know

    Common questions from Havant couples.

Have you shot in Havant before?

Not yet, and we will not pretend otherwise. Our real weddings so far are a short drive away rather than in Havant itself. Havant is one of our closest towns, though, so for any venue here we visit ahead of the day and already know the ceremony space, the light and the spots for portraits before we arrive with you. Somewhere like the harbour at Langstone is a known quantity to plan around even on a first booking.

The light off Langstone Harbour changes fast. How do you handle it?

That is the part we plan for. Open water and big windows move from flat glare to soft gold within an hour, so we scout where the good light will be at your ceremony time and hold a little back for portraits when the sun drops over the harbour. Two of us means one can be reading the light while the other stays on the couple.

You are based in Chichester. Does travel to Havant cost extra?

Havant is only about eight miles from Mudberry Lane, one of the nearest towns we cover, so it sits well inside our normal area and there is no separate travel charge for it. We would tell you upfront if a venue ever fell outside that, rather than adding it quietly later.

How far in advance should we book a Havant summer date?

Popular dates from late spring through to early autumn tend to go twelve to eighteen months out, and the harbourside and estate venues fill first. Shorter notice does come up, so it is worth asking even if your date is only a few months away.
